We examined the effects of repeated treatment with a selective σ1 receptor agonist, (+)-SKF-10,047 (10 mg/kg, i.p.), or vehicle on the expression of 56 genes in the hippocampus and amygdala in rats. We also examined the effects of the same treatment on the expression of a group of cytochrome P450 genes (CYPs) that are involved in the metabolism of drugs and xenobiotics in the brain. The analysis of the expression of CYP1A1, CYP1A2, CYP2B1/2, CYP3A1, and CYP4A1/2/3, CYP2C6/10/11, and CYP19A1 in the hippocampus and amygdala by quantitative real-time PCR revealed an increase in the mRNA levels of CYP1A1, CYP1A2, CYP2B1/2, CYP3A1, and CYP4A1/2/3 after repeated treatment with (+)-SKF-10,047. This increase was similar in the amygdala and hippocampus. However, the mRNA levels of CYP2C6/10/11 did not change after treatment with (+)-SKF-10,047. The increase in CYP1A1 mRNA was time-dependent, and it peaked at 48 h after a single or repeated treatment with (+)-SKF-10,047. The changes in CYP1A2, CYP3A1, and CYP4A1/2/3 mRNA levels peaked after 2 weeks of repeated treatment with (+)-SKF-10,047. However, the mRNA levels of CYP2C6/
